I needed to have a walk, but found that all of Tyneside also wanted a walk on New Year’s Day, despite an icy wind. I drove up and down the seafront, round the main street of the village, until eventually I spotted someone leaving rather than arriving at a space.
I did not stay long. The wind was icy. I was surprised to see two ice cream stalls along a short stretch of the front on New Year’s Day. It had been sunny earlier so I assume that they had been doing a reasonably brisk trade to be there still. It took little willpower to resist ice cream at a cloudy dusk in a northerly wind.
